El Angel Ecological Reserve

General
One of the most characteristic aspects of this
reserve is the frailejón, a plant exclusive to
the humid high paramos of the Andes. This is
a very humid area; the water from the rivers
and lagoons of the reserve supply several
towns. There are many lagoons like El Voladero and Potrerillos, Pelado and Crespo, often visited by campers.

Access
There are two main paved roads to get to the reserve: Ibarra-Mira-El Angel and Ibarra-Pimampiro-Bolivar-San Gabriel- Tulcán. There is also a dirt road from El Angel to Tulcán.

Species
The fauna is typical of paramo ecosystems, including white-tailed deer, paramo fox, puma, paramo deer, hawk, caracara, condor and the introduced trout.

Plants
The most important species are frailejón, alyssum, arrayán, cedar, chilca and paramo grasses such as agrostis, festuca and calamagrostis.
