Sumaco-Napo Galeras National Park


General
This national park offers a wide diversity of
ecosystems, from high mountains to cloud
and lowland forest. The Sumaco volcano
(12,792 feet) stands isolated from the rest of
the Andean cordillera, like an island
surrounded by lowland forest. The Napo-Galeras cordillera is extremely humid and has many rivers and springs running through deep valleys. Near the Park there are Indian Quichua communities and archaeological sites of the Cosanga culture.

Access
The are two ways to access the park: one is the Baeza-Hollín-Loreto, and the other one Baeza to Archidona.

Species
This area is rich in species from the humid tropical forest and cloud forest, including spectacle bear, several species of bats, marsupials, armadillos, eagles, guams, cock of the rock and many species of reptiles and amphibians.

Plants
The most common species are cedar, canelo and the rubber tree.
